The English and Media Department really has a part to play in the school's Business and Enterprise character. We foster creativity, new ideas, promotion, evaluation, making links, communicating, leadership, teamwork, productivity, presentation, competition, analysis and enjoyment of the subject.
Our aim is to realise the full potential of every pupil. It is our responsibility to give pupils the opportunities to develop:
• A confident and effective use of language skills in the different forms and genres of written and spoken English.
• An open mind and respect for the opinions of others.
• A genuine enjoyment of literature and an understanding of the role of literature in developing imagination, empathy and respect for diverse peoples and cultures.
• A critical awareness of the power of language to challenge, move and persuade.
• A pride in the quality of work, both in content and presentation.
• The ability to link images, texts and media in general to own experiences and recognising the effect they themselves have on their environment and society as a whole.

The English and Media department believes that its subject holds a central place in the whole school curriculum by being at the heart of the learning process in all other curriculum areas, as well as supporting individual growth in emotional and imaginative terms. The English and Media department provides and reinforces skills in all aspects of the language experience in order to equip individuals with the necessary skills for life as well as enjoyment of reading, writing and speaking.
